| Creating New Files |
You are going to create 4 photoshop files:
1) The first file will be called Web_size. Make it 800
pixels wide and 600 pixels high. Set the dpi to 72 pixels
per inch, and set the Contents to White. Save it in your
folder.
2) The second file will be called Letter_Print. Make
it 8.5 inches wide and 11 inches high. Set the dpi to
300 pixels per inch and set the Contents to White. Save
it in your folder.
3) The third file will be called Background_Color. It
can be any size. Set the Contents to Background
Color.
Save it in your folder.
4) The fourth file will be called Transparent. It can
be any size. Set the Contents to Transparent. Save it
in your folder.

- Open Photoshop.
- Close all the palettes.
- Have your teacher watch you go to File>Preferences>General
and click Reset Palette Locations to Default.

- Download the file Layer_Practice.psd
and Elephant_Background.jpg..
- Open Layer_Practice.psd. in Photoshop. Change the
order of the layers on the document so you can see
all the features of the South Park character.
- Open
the file Elephant_Background.jpg that you downloaded
at the beginning.
- Use the Move Tool to drag the Elephant_Background.jpg
onto Layer_Practice as a new layer.
- Make sure that the Elephant_Background is the bottom
layer.

1) Download layer_effect.psd.
2) Apply the following effects to the appropriate layers
- drop shadow with angle -100 degrees
- inner shadow with opacity 28%
- outer glow with intensity 150%
- inner glow with edge setting
- bevel and emboss - inner bevel
- bevel and emboss - outer bevel
- bevel and emboss - pillow emboss

Download the file line_practice.jpg. Use the line
tool to recreate what you see at the end of the tutorial.
- Make three intersecting lines in normal blending
mode with a beginning arrowhead. Hold down the Shift
key so
that
one line is vertical,
one line is horizontal, and
one
line is at a 45 degree angle
- Change the Foreground color to make
a red line in Multiply blending mode that goes across
one of the elephants
